My three big snappers are up and running - none the worse for wear after spending the winter hibernating under the ice, in the pond-bottom mud.

Can you see THREE big snappers in this picture?

The only obvious clue is the shell peeking up on the left.

Frogs and tadpoles... BEWARE!

"Snapperville" is on the far shore - that's where they usually hang out.

The box shows where the picture above was taken. As the summer progresses and the tadpoles proliferate, they take a slow daytime cruise across the pond to the near side, snapping up snacks along the way.  (Many videos of this action are "in the can", waiting to be produced and posted.)

To the right of the box is the arched gray "turtle log" where painted turtles pile up and bask (there are several there in this picture). Once in a while, a snapper will climb out there too.
